story of an exhibition . . .

I've been busy with my team of helpers preparing for the forthcoming ALLOTMENT exhibition at MAC Birmingham this week.  Nearly all the pieces have been selected now and we have started to prepare a collection of second hand frames to be used in the show.  A new facebook page has also been created for you to 'like' and view our progress (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Allotment-Plot-9/296260883779259).  These images document the process so far . . .

Behind the scenes . . .

For the last week I have been working on a new film with R&A Collaborations for Stroud International Textiles open film submission.  On the theme of 'Pairings' we looked at how the process of weaving and the fabric itself could be used as a trigger in the filming and editing. The music has been created from the weave structures, colour changes have informed filters and the warp order has determined camera angles.  Here are some photos from behind the scenes of the filming process . . .

Wenlock scarf . . .

Last week Kate and I finished designing the first Millbank & Foot scarf which is inspired by the Wenlock Olympics.  We sent it off to the printers and it arrived back on Friday.  It was Kate's birthday, so a lovely present and just in time before giving birth! We now have a new team member at Millbank & Foot, baby Harris (he's been referred to as the 'tweed' baby from the start) arrived in the early hours of Sunday morning.  Congratulations to Kate and Dave! here are a few images of the scarf (baby pictures in a future post!) . . .

I will be using the space to showcase some of my favourite Shropshire artist and designers.  PLOT 9 will include work by R&A Collaborations, Hayley Robinson, Sophie Copage, Christophe DillingerElla Ruth Cowperthwaite, Beth FletcherPam NewallRichard FootJulie Hedges, Millbank & Foot, and a few others.

Lino Printing .....

Millbank and Foot are currently designing a digitally printed scarf for a competition. To go alongside drawn elements of the design we experimented with lino cutting to create textures based on studies of sports equipment. We had a lot of fun playing and making these designs and hope to do some more soon.....

Here are some pictures of the work that we produced
